Students come to The Language Center to learn to speak Spanish with a variety of goals in mind:

  • To conduct business in Spanish in person and by phone.

  • To correspond with Spanish-speaking friends, colleagues, and clients by letter or e-mail.

  • To read Spanish-language newspapers, magazines, and
    professional journals.

  • To make travel arrangements and to enjoy visiting Spanish-speaking countries.

  • To represent a church, religious, or philanthropic organization in
    the mission field.

  • To serve the local Spanish-speaking population in health care, banking, and commerce.

  • To experience the FUN of really conversing in Spanish - not simply knowing a few memorized words, phrases, and verb conjugations.

The current population trends in the United States and the economic benefits of foreign trade have caused many individuals and companies to recognize the need for proficiency in Spanish. Merchants, bankers, health care providers, educators, and more are aware of the need to provide goods and services to a Spanish-speaking clientele at home and abroad.

"...And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done." (Acts 2:11) Workers and volunteers in the mission field are more effective if they demonstrate an effort to speak the language of those to whom they are ministering.
